We are thrilled to announce that our Director, Chef Andrew George, has been inducted into the BC Restaurant Hall of Fame!
Chef George is a Hereditary Chief of the Wet’suwet’en Bear Clan and is also BC’s first Indigenous Red Seal Chef.
The BC Restaurant Hall of Fame is an initiative of the British Columbia Restaurant and Foodservices Association that celebrates the dedication and innovation of industry leaders. Chef Andrew’s passion for Indigenous culinary arts, combined with his commitment to community work, embodies the spirit of this award, and we are all incredibly proud of him.
As a Director at Dan’s Legacy, his expertise and leadership has had a transformative impact on our mission. His work as an advisor to our Dan’s Diner and Cook Training programs has helped us provided job-skills training for at-risk youth, repurposing surplus food into healthy and affordable meals for the community.
Earlier this year, Global News ran a story on Chef Andrew George looking back on his career and discussing his work with Dan’s Legacy. We are beyond grateful to Chef Andrew and his son Drew, who both dedicate their time and talents to empower youth and support our programs.
Drew will be one of 4 gourmet guest chefs preparing a signature dish using recovered food at our annual Chefs’ Charity Dinner. Funds raised at our event go directly towards our trauma-informed, no-barrier counselling and job-skills training programs for youth at-risk in New Westminster and across Metro Vancouver.
If you or someone you know would like to pursue a career in the culinary arts, learn more about our job-skills training programs. Our programs run alongside free counselling support and self-referral is quick and simple and can be done here.
