On Saturday, August 26th approximately 75 guests came out in support of the 2nd Annual Community Dinner Fundraiser at Sande’s Lounge & Banquet Hall in Burnaby and helped raise $9,370 for Dan’s Legacy. The funds will go towards providing therapeutic counselling and life-skills intervention programs for youth affected by mental health and addictions challenges.
“We’re so thrilled with the support we received from the community,” says Barbara Coates, Dan’s Legacy’s executive director. “There are many, many more young people out there asking for our help, which takes an incredible amount of courage to do. Our supporters not only help us turn lives around, they literally save lives.”
“We believe that Harm Prevention is the most effective and sustainable solution to the opioid health crisis,” says Tom Littlewood, Psychologist and Program Director at Dan’s Legacy. “We help these kids find the insight and empowerment needed to learn to self-regulate, deal with the past trauma that is the root cause of their self-harm behaviour, and work towards meeting their education, housing and life goals.”
Guests of the dinner feasted on appetizers, a buffet and desserts all prepared using surplus food donated by Save-On-Foods. Music, a silent auction and the launch of a video that tells the success stories of three of Dan’s Legacy’s clients rounded out the evening’s entertainment.
Dan’s Legacy thanks its key sponsors Clark Woods LLP, Chime, Chef Shay Kelly of The Caterer, Rotary New Westminster, British Hydraulics and Garden Works Burnaby.
