NEW WESTMINSTER, BC – Dan’s Legacy is pleased to announce the addition of three new members to its leadership team: Barbara
Coates (Executive Director), Nigel Elliott (Director), and Janice Tomich (Director).
Ms. Coates has a 33 year background in broadcasting, communications and public
relations, working in the private, government and non-profit sectors. She is an active and
long-time volunteer in her community, serving as past Director with the Canadian Mental
Health Association (Delta), an active mentor with CPRS Vancouver, and current
Communications Chair with the Delta Federal Liberal Riding Association. She holds a
Diploma in Broadcast Communications and a Certificate in Marketing
Management/Public Relations (Distinction) from BCIT.
Mr. Elliott is a public affairs professional specializing in public policy, issues
management and stakeholder engagement. A former researcher with the B.C.
Government Caucus and staffer for British Columbia’s Minister of Education, he has a
strong understanding of government operations and B.C.’s political landscape. Mr. Elliott
is also a visual artist, and a strong believer in community service; he currently volunteers
at a weekly drop-in centre for male and transgender sex trade workers. Mr. Elliott holds
a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Simon Fraser University and a
Certificate in Graphic Design from BCIT.
Ms. Tomich is the principal of Calculated Presentations, a communication firm that helps
professionals and executives improve their communication skills, create winning
presentations, and deliver powerful messages to boards, investors, employees, or
the marketplace. She also works with TED and TEDx speakers, preparing them to share
their “Ideas Worth Spreading”. Ms. Tomich is a founding member of TEDxKids@BC and
an instructor at Langara College.
