Deloitte Volunteers Help with Earth Day

Every April 22 since 1970 people around the world recognize Earth Day, showing their support for environmental protection initiatives – now more critical than ever.

At Dan’s Legacy, we’ve been lucky to have the support of volunteers from Deloitte, who, for the past four years, have provided us with a number of pro-bono projects: a strategic plan in 2020; a fundraising framework in 2022; a media relations strategy in 2024; and in honour of Earth Day, help with the grocery hamper program we provide to our youth clients.

This year for Earth Day, Deloitte’s Impact Day focus is on “Waste Re-imagined”.

This ties in perfectly with our Recovered Food Program, with product being diverted to not only our support programs for youth, but to 11 other community food banks and soup kitchens across Metro Vancouver. Food for the program, which we pick up seven days a week, is donated to Dan’s Legacy by several grocery stores and food distribution centres. All of this food is perfectly edible, but the stores need to make room on their shelves for new stock.

 .

Last year we provided more than 346,000 meals to people in the community facing food security challenges, reduced CO2 emissions by 488,000kg, and diverted more than 189,000kg of edible food from local landfills (stats from FoodMesh).

Food recovery and redistribution is a growing trend, and Dan’s Legacy has been at the forefront of this initiative for over 25 years.

We’d like to thank our friends at Deloitte for making a difference by helping us help our clients in so many ways!
