On Thursday, November 2, 108 guests turned out in support of the 10th Annual Chefs’ Charity Dinner at the Fort Langley Community Hall and raised just over $68,000 for Dan’s Legacy. The funds will go towards the charity’s no-barrier trauma-informed counselling and wrap-around programs for youth affected by mental health and addictions challenges.
Well-known celebrity Erin Cebula was the evening’s MC, and dignitaries amongst the guests included MLA Andrew Mercier (Minister of State for Workforce Development), Township of Langley Mayor Eric Woodward, City of Langley Mayor Nathan Pachal, Langley RCMP Superintendent Adrian Marsden and staff, and Langley Chamber of Commerce CEO Cory Redekop. Chefs Shay Kelly, Andrew George, Luke Willingdon and Alannah Peddie created the entire menu only using recovered food.
Guests learned about the impact that holistic support can have on a youth, through the moving story shared by Dan’s Legacy’s youth client Mary Jane (MJ). Raised in multiple foster care homes throughout her childhood and youth, MJ spoke about the overwhelming fear and loneliness she experienced growing up. Anxiety and depression, as well as harmful life choices, were putting her life at risk. Thanks to the support of her therapist, as well as full wrap-around support from Dan’s Legacy’s social workers and outreach team, helped her build her self- esteem and begin creating a future for herself.

About Dan’s Legacy
Dan’s Legacy provides no-barrier therapeutic counselling and wrap-around programs to youth dealing with mental health and addictions issues. We go directly to the youth wherever they are, we try to maintain a no-wait list and all of our services are free. Last year Dan’s Legacy helped over approximately 600 youth meet their educational, employment and recovery goals.
